Magnesia carbon brick is made of fused magnesia (sintered magnesia) and flake graphite (mainly graphite with complete crystallization) as raw materials, resin as binder, pressurized and heat treated.
In order to improve the oxidation resistance, metal and other antioxidants are often added. MgO-C brick forms a carbon skeleton combination when used at high temperature. Because MgO and carbon do not dissolve each other, the excellent fire resistance of the original components is retained. Carbon has good thermal conductivity, low thermal expansion coefficient and elastic coefficient, which can effectively prevent high temperature spalling and slag penetration, and is not easy to occur structural spalling, which greatly changes the fatal weakness of modified structure spalling caused by slag penetration of magnesia refractories. In addition, carbon is not wettable to slag and has good corrosion resistance.
These characteristics make it an ideal burden material with good thermal shock resistance, corrosion resistance and spalling resistance. MgO-C brick is widely used in the key parts of thermal equipment such as converter, electric arc furnace, ladle and secondary refining furnace.
